Jawbone Jambox

I think I want a Jawbone JAMBOX

Steve Jobs eat your heart out. JAMBOX -- what a demo!

I rarely see products that look so slick, innovative, original, and functional anymore. This lego-like brick shaped multi-purpose portable boom box looks to be one part speaker and one part IKEA decorative paper weight. The company describes it as simply the smallest, best sounding wireless speaker and speaker phone on the planet.

There are full specifications on the Jawbone website. What I noticed is that it has personalization features via Jawbone's MyTALK online platform which allows for downloading apps and software upgrades to allow for feature enhancements.

If I was Bose, Sonos, PolyCom or any of the dozens of crappy portable iPhone docking players I'd be worried. If the sound and functions are as good as the preliminary marketing, this thing is sure to be a hit.

I plan on buying a JAMBOX when it's released later this month and will post a complete review at http://www.RoderickReviews.com

Although at first site and sound this snazzy little mini brick looks and sounds very attractive, there are some "buyer beware", buyer remorse flags.

My boss first showed me this in his office a couple of weeks ago. I was smitten, thinking that "Wow" my wife would love this for her birthday to stream Pandora via bluetooth to it from her phone. I bought it on Amazon for a bit of a reduced price at $180.00 versus the listed $199.00. It arrived working properly and for it's extremely small size, provided a pleasant listening experience on our back deck. Nothing exceptional, but cool... The next morning, which was Saturday, I went to upgrade the onboard software to 2.1 via the jawbone website and USB connection and it turned it into a nonfunctional little brick. Wouldn't even turn on. No customer service was available other than the online blogs. Please do a search for "Jawbone Jambox UnResponsive" et. al. and beware. This is a very cool little product, but is very tempermental in some cases. I have packaged it to return it to Amazon and in the meantime gone to Bestbuy to buy my wife a "Bose Portable Soundlink Bluetooth Speaker" which buy the way has 10 times the sound quality as the Jambox and is only $100 dollars more than the MSRP $199.00 for the Jambox. Last comment... "Beware of Cool in Small Packages" Although I'm sure this worked for some folks, it didn't for me.
